 Meadowbrook Greenhouses started business in fall of 1979 with the construction of a single 4000 sq. ft. greenhouse, built with the intention of growing hydroponic greenhouse tomatoes to sell wholesale through the local grocery stores. By 1981 the need for more space became apparent and we added another 4000 sq.ft. of greenhouse. About this time the local interest in our product had grown to the point where we could no longer just sell wholesale, and we began selling retail out of the greenhouses.
Through the 1980s a gradual shift started to take place whereby we began to use less space for tomatoes and more for flower crops to sell to our retail customers. By 1989 we were completely out of the tomato business and totally retail spring plants. At Meadowbrook we strive to provide our customers with a premium quality product line.
 The business has grown steadily with the addition of space as required, to our current size of almost 17,000 sq. ft. We currently sell retail only, for a period starting May first each year until roughly the end of June, at which time we are sold out and we must close due to excessive summer heating in the greenhouses. We currently hire a staff of 7 part and full time seasonal employees to help during both the production and retail phases of the busy spring season. We are proud to be able to boast about our staff, who have for the most part been with us for many years, and have gained a large amount of knowledge about our products and plant material in general. Low staff turnover is almost unheard of in this seasonal business and has benefits for both us and our customers.
